Veteran Lee Chung-Yoo dropped as Korea announce squad for Russia 2018

Crystal Palace attacker Lee Chung-Yong has seen his dream of participating in third World Cup tournament for Korea fizzle out on Saturday as he was one of the three players that received the final axe as coach Shin Tae-Yong announced his final 23-man squad for Russia 2018.

The Taeguk Warriors will now proceed to their Austrian training camp on Sunday without Lee alongside defenders Kim Jin-Su of K-League champions Jeonbuk Motors and Kwon Kyong-Won of Tianjin Quanjian in China.

Lee, who was a veteran of the 2010 and 2014 world World Cups barely got game time at Crystal Palace in the 2017/18 Premier League season and the lack of game time has subsequently cost him a place in Russia 2018.

Meanwhile, Kwon was excluded due to failure to recover from a Knee injury he sustained in March during a friendly against Northern Ireland in Belfast. The likes of Lee Leun-Ho and Kwon Chang-Hoon had already withdrawn from the initial roster due to injury.

This ultimately meant that the likes of Lee Seung-Woo, a former Barcelona prodigy who debuted in Monday's 2 nil win over Honduras, and other rookies Oh Ban-Suk and MoomSeon-Min keep their place in the squad.

Korea now have two warm-up games left against Bolivia and Senegal. They are in Group F and kick off against Sweden on June 18 before taking on Mexico and defending champions Germany and more info click here netbet.co.uk
