Taking a Look at Your Furnace Heat Exchanger

When was the last time that you have looked at your furnace heat exchanger? If it has been a while, then you know that it is due to be checked now. Some people regularly check their exchangers. They check it once every year. Some even have theirs checked by a professional. If you cannot do this or you are trying to save money, you can try to look at the heat exchanger on your own but remember that there is no guarantee if your exchanger truly needs to be replaced or not. If you want, you may ask an expert to double check your heat exchanger.

If you decide that you would like your heat exchanger to be checked by a professional after all then you can trust the recommendation of the professional if it would be repaired or replaced. There may be some professionals who will tell you that you need to have your heat exchanger replaced but actually, it will be easy to have your exchanger repaired at the soonest possible time. Make sure that you only hire a trusted company otherwise you may be duped by the company that you supposedly trust.

Remember that your furnace is already due to be checked once it reaches 5 years at your own home. If you use if for industrial purposes and it is open most of the time, you need to have it checked more consistently. The moment that you suspect that there is a leak or a hole on your heat exchanger, you need to have it checked so that the damage can be assessed. You can normally tell if there is something wrong with your heat exchanger based on the flame of your furnace. Is your flame blue? If yes, then you have nothing to worry about but if your flame is yellow or orange, this is a sign that there may be something wrong.

Aside from the external appearance of the furnace, it will help if you can also check the inside. This is something that needs to be done by a professional. See if there is any soot present. This will signify that the furnace is undergoing improper combustion. This may cause further problems in the long run.

One of the most dangerous things that can occur when you have a cracked furnace is the high level of carbon monoxide that can be found near the furnace area. Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas that is deadly because it does not have any smell. People will only realize that they are already being poisoned when they have inhaled too much of it. You can detect if there is carbon monoxide at home if you have an alarm placed near the furnace. For replacement parts, you can contact AIC group.

For heat exchangers that are beyond damaged, they will not work anymore so you can immediately tell if you need to have them replaced. They can be very expensive but as long as you take good care of them, you will be able to make them last for a good, long while. Having the exchangers for at least 10 years won’t be bad anymore.
