Amazing Facts about Dog Care

Dogs are a man's best friend. They have been our pets, guards, hunting partners and loyal companions for centuries. In homes where there are dogs, they are considered as part of the family.

Just like any other family member, dogs require special care. They need various types of care such as;

1.       Medical care
2.       Emotional care
3.       Grooming care
4.       Exercise

For new dog owners, here are some tips about dog care.

If you are considering getting a dog, the first option should be adoption. There are many dog shelters where you can get a puppy to adopt. By doing this, you are supporting the initiative of dog rescue and adoption.

Caring for puppies

They are adorable, sweet and fun to play with. Puppies are loved by adults and children too. Unlike big dogs, they require special care.

When you get a puppy, you should feed it with specially made food. You should seek food that is filled with vitamins and minerals that puppies need for proper growth. This should be complemented with clean, fresh water as often as possible.

You may be tempted to give your puppy some tasty people food. It is however advisable to resist the temptation and stick to giving him only puppy food. This is because feeding your puppy with people food can cause nutrient imbalances in the body as well as encourage the puppy to be a picky eater. According to PrimpPlay, eating people food can also lead to your puppy being obese.

If your puppy is between 12 weeks and 4 years old, a total of 4 meals every day is sufficient. If the puppy is between 3 and 6 months old, then 3 meals every day will do. Once the puppy grows up to be between 6 months and 1 year, two meals every day is ideal. After that, a single meal every day is enough. If your dog is quite large, it is possible that he bloats easily. As such, two small meals every day are ideal.

Grooming care

It is very important to ensure that your dog is well groomed. This keeps his coat clean and prevents excess shedding. One of the basic ways to groom your dog is by brushing his coat. While you do this, remember to check the coat for parasites such as fleas and ticks.

Bathing your dog is also a way to groom him. However, your dog does not need to be bathed every day. A few times every year is sufficient. As you prepare to bathe your dog, cut out any mats in the fur.

Remember to comb through his fur to get rid of any particles that could be stuck in it. After that, simply wet and lather the coat with soap or shampoo. Work it deep into his coat and then rinse it all out with lots of clean water.

Emotional care

Always be gentle with your dog. He picks up on your emotions throughout the time that you are together. If you have to discipline your dog, ensure that you don't use physical means or scolding. A firm word and guidance with the leash is enough.
